What to pack for BACKPACKING
Pack Weight
Your backpack and the gear it holds should not weigh more than 1/3 of your body weight, and never more than 20 - 30 pounds (without water & crew gear). You need to leave room and allow weight for Troop Gear. This includes equipment such as pots, stoves, fuel, water purifiers, and your share of food. Also remember that water weighs a lot! Each gallon of water weighs 8.33 pounds, so the 3 quarts of water that you should plan to carry will weigh 6.25 pounds. Your share of group gear & water will weigh about 15 or 20 pounds, but your entire pack should NOT weigh more than 50 pounds.
Uniforms
Leave your Class A uniform home. You will only need a Class B or Class C. Remember to pack light, and do double duty. Zip away pants work better than shorts and long pants. If it is bulky, leave it home!

Leave it home or it will be confiscated |
Pack early. Get on the scale without your pack. Get on
again. If it weighs more than 30 pounds, it is too heavy,
because you will be adding that much weight from
Troop Gear, food and water.
If you aren't sure, leave it home! Think light. Pack light.
